Overview
Caption Caddie is a native macOS application that runs on your computer. Your images, rosters, and matchup data are stored locally on your Mac. This policy describes what data leaves your device and how it is handled.
Local data
Caption Caddie stores application data in:
~/Library/Application Support/CaptionCaddie/
This includes rosters, matchups, events, and application settings. This data does not leave your Mac unless you explicitly export it.
API keys
If you provide a Google Gemini API key, it is stored in the macOS Keychain
under the service name com.captioncaddie.mac.credentials.v2.
Keys are never transmitted to Caption Caddie servers. There are no Caption Caddie servers.
Cloud processing (Google Gemini)
When cloud processing is enabled, Caption Caddie sends images to Google Gemini for jersey number detection and caption generation. This communication goes directly from your Mac to Google's API using your API key.
- Images are sent only when you process them in Session with cloud features enabled.
- Data handling is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and your Google Cloud / AI Studio account terms.
- You can disable cloud processing by not configuring a Gemini API key, or by using local-only features where available.
Website
This website (captioncaddie.app) is a static landing page. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics on this site. Standard web server logs may be collected by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) as described in Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist before launch, we collect your email address, full name, photographer level, and any optional answers you provide about your photography workflow (wire service, sports covered, Photo Mechanic usage, and how you heard about us). We may also ask optional product feedback: what you want Caption Caddie to do and what monthly price range you would consider, for research only. You must opt in to receive launch updates.
- Waitlist data is stored in a Google Sheet in our Google Workspace account (captioncaddie.app).
- We use it only to notify you about Caption Caddie availability and related product updates.
- We do not sell waitlist data or share it with third parties for marketing.
- To request removal from the waitlist, contact us at the email address listed on this site when available, or reply to any waitlist email you receive.
Beta feedback
If you are in the private beta, the feedback form at /beta-feedback/ collects your email, name,
issue type, optional severity, app and macOS version, steps to reproduce, a description of the problem,
and an optional screenshot link. That page is not indexed by search engines and is shared only with beta testers.
- Beta feedback is stored in a Google Sheet in our Google Workspace account (captioncaddie.app).
- We use it only to investigate bugs, improve the app, and prioritize fixes before a wider release.
- We do not sell beta feedback data or share it with third parties for marketing.
Third-party tools
- ExifTool: bundled with the app and runs locally on your Mac to write IPTC/XMP metadata to image files (no separate install required).
- Apple Vision: on-device framework for local image analysis.
- Google Gemini: optional cloud API for detection and captioning (see above).
